Tam Falls is one of the biggest falls around Kagay Khasmahal near kalimpong in North Bengal. It is a hidden, less explored gem in Kagay and It is nestled in Gerock within a pristine forest area.
Vehicles usually drop visitors near Gerock primary School, where a 4 km foot trail begins. However, during spring, vehicles can drop you closer near sunny Rai’s home, cutting the trek down to just 2 km.
Exploring Kagay Village and Local Life
A peaceful, quiet trail welcomes you, as you walk, you’ll find few settlement where friendly tribal communities reside.The local residents are very helpful, so feel free to ask them for directions- they are often happy to guide you along the route.
The charming village houses display decorative items, giving you a wonderful glimpse into local rural life. Additionally, local villagers practice beekeeping, with almost every household maintaining hives for fresh honey.
Local Attractions & Mt Kanchenjunga View
Near the end of village settlement, you’ll find a small fun park and a local heritage museum. While well worth a visit, you will need permission from the Farm-stay owner to enter.
From the hilltop, you can take in the scenic landscape and enjoy views of Mt Kanchenjunga on clear day. Right beside it, a small bamboo and wood farmstay offers cozy, charming cottages.
Once you pass the last village house, the trail leads straight into a dense green forest. Along the way, you cross several small streams and wooden bridges surrounded by vibrant greenery. The local woods feature famous wild mushrooms, including rare micro species, while birdwatchers can spot various resident and migratory birds.
Arriving at Tam Falls
Local residentd built the walking trail, showcase impressive craftsmanship in the stone steps. In some spots, seating areas carved directly into the rocks offer a beautiful place to rest in the middle of the jungle.
After an hour of walk you will finally reach this beautiful spot. The waterfall has three steps all are visible one point first step is 45 ft high and other two steps are small enough, you can also get down to the end of the waterfall and enjoy the view from below or just rest your legs, feel the refreshing cold water on your feet, and let the view do the rest.
Know Before You Go to tam Falls
It is best to avoid visiting during heavy monsoon due to leeches, slippery trails, and the risk of landslides in the region. Starting early in the morning ensures you have plenty of time to enjoy the trail, rest by the falls, and trek back before dusk. make sure to wear sturdy, non-slip hiking shoes to navigate rocky paths, carved stone steps, and moist forest terrain. Additionally, stock up on water and snacks before leaving the jeep-able road, as there is no shops along the trail.
