Overview & Key Highlights
Changey Falls is one of the biggest falls around West Bengal. It is located in the Kalimpong District of West Bengal. It lies at an elevation of around 7218 ft above sea level, you can see the first section directly from the viewing site, while the lower second drop is visible from the opposite hillside.
This falls gives birth to Reshi River which flows down from Kolakham to Reshi. Furthermore, it’s a very peaceful place surrounded with dense forest and the surrounding temperate forest is home to rare Himalayan bird species, including the White Capped Water Red start, Blue Whistling Thrush, flycatcher, and many more.
On a clear day, visitors can enjoy the spectacular view of mt Kanchenjunga in the background beyond the dense canopy.
Road condition are rough because the falls lie within a protected forest environment. As a buffer zone for Neora Valley National Park, the area remains preserved to safeguard thousands of native plant and animal species.
Trail Details & Physical Requirements
Reaching the falls requires a short hike that demands moderate physical fitness. The return trek involves climbing a steep 900 meter incline (roughly 400 to 500 steps). As a result, this can be strenuous for young children, elderly travelers, or anyone with joint or cardiac concerns.
The path is very steep enough but there are multiple stoppages in between where you can relax and enjoy the cool fresh air and birds chirping, this makes your hike worthy.
Photography & Visiting Tips
This location is ideal for photography. Carry a zoom lens or lightweight tripod to capture birds and landscapes. Bring waterproof protection for your camera gear due to water spray near the base of waterfall.
The site is open all day but best visited between 8 am and 4 pm during daylight hours. There are some small local stalls near the entry which offers tea coffee, packaged snacks, and bottled water.
How to Get There
You can only reach the falls by hiring a local four- wheel drive taxi. Taxis are available from Lava, Kalimpong or Rishop

Best season to visit
Summer ( March to May) and early winter ( October to february) which offers clear skies and comfortable walking conditions. avoid Monsoon season (June to September) due to slippery steps and landslide risk.
